COMMUNICATING
MACHINES, CITY OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY, PARIS
12 JULY - 25 OCTOBER 1992
Like
“The Telephonic Faucet” (no 46), this work demonstrates
how telecommunications technologies have altered our relationship
to, and perception of, physical space through the use of a telephone
connection to fill a bucket with water. In this case, the calls
are made from the site of the installation rather than from numerous
remote locations, but each call is makes a trans-global detour with
stops in New York and Tokyo before being redirected to the installation
site in Paris where the valve is triggered.
