This
work is an early example of the artist’s lifelong interest
in alternative media network hybrids and long-distance agency. Working
in teams with information provided via closed-circuit television
and by telephone correspondents, 5 groups of people are each asked
to come up with a fictional narrative involving individuals who
happen to find themselves together in a compartment of “Le
Capitole,” the Paris-Toulouse express train that is about
to leave the station in Paris. To complete their work they must
link their narratives to stories reported in the morning newspapers
and contend with the artist’s provocative voice-over interventions
on closed-circuit television, and ultimately act out their narratives.
