A spin-off
of the highly successful “Artistic Square Meter” real
estate parody, this project involves the artist’s secondary
residence in the Paris region, which is declared an independent
state within the French Republic. The house itself, a building on
the grounds of a former aristocratic estate, is turned into the
seat of government and is outfitted with installations parodying
the settings one finds in real palaces and ministries. Individuals
become citizens of the Territory by purchasing a subscription to
a square-meter parcel of the grounds and are thereby privy to special
communication from the artist-president: certificates of citizenship,
special communiqués, invitations to participate in live events,
etc.
