Fred Forest is a university professor in the fields of information science and communication and is internationally renowned in the word of technological arts. He is widely recognised as one of the pioneers in video and network arts. He was awarded the Communication Prize at the Sao-Paulo Biennial, represented France at the Venice Biennial and participated in the Documenta in Kassel. The sale of his virtual work "Parcelle/Réseau" at the Drouot auction house in Paris made him one of France's best known visual artists on the international scene.

For the 1998 Internet Festival he has created the work entitled, "J'arrête le temps" (I stop time)

"Forest (Fred), French artist (born in Mascara, [Mouaskar], Algeria, 1933). Since his first video exhibition in Tours in 1969, he has worked to bring together in his creative vision social reality, the phenomena of communication and an imaginary dimension. Forest is one of the pioneers of sociological art as an initiator of a technique which explores the expressive possibilities of video in addition to other media such as radio, television, the written press, telephone, cable, telematic, robotics, luminous electronic news and Internet.
