Sophie Lavaud is a multimedia artist who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the University of Paris 1 where she obtained her master's degree in art. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions: Toulouse (Musée d'Art Moderne de Toulouse), Germany, Nice, Barcelona, Paris etc. As a painter she began, from around 1986, to become increasingly interested in "new images" and started to use 2D and 3D palettes and software. Her work has developed towards an expression of the notion of "installation".

She has continued to produce at the Art 3000 studio and in 1995 created the first version of a virtual reality installation: 'CENTRE-LUMIERE-BLEU'. This original work was presented at the Carrousel du Louvre, at the first Metz Biennial exhibition and at the Futuroscope technology park in Poitiers.

A second version entitled "CENTRE-LUMIERE-BLEU N°2" was shown at F.A.U.S.T (Forum des Arts de l'Univers Scientifique et Technologique) in Toulouse in October 1996. This work was produced in partnership with the METAFORT in Aubervilliers and was exhibited at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris in January 1997 and then at the first Art and Technology Festival in Compiègne in March 98.

For the 1998 Internet Festival she placed a work entitled "La Balade du Printemps" on the net.

In December 98/January 99 Sophie Lavaud participated in the "Arts virtuels, créations interactives et multisensorielles" (Virtual arts, interactive and multisensorial designs) exhibition which was organised by Frank Popper at the Espace Landowski in Boulogne-Billancourt.
